The weather in the uk has dramatically changed from what it was like in the 80s. Back then it snowed practically every winter. Summer was usually 2 months of sunny uninterrupted weather of day 20-25 degrees. Now it’s just straight up erratic

Tornadoes. According to Wikipedia the highest concentration of tornadoes per square mile in the entire world is actually in... UK. However in comparison to a USA tornado... well, there is no comparison. Occasionally a roof tile is dislodged, or a garden chair is blown over. The UK might get a lot of them, but rarely is one serious enough to cause real damage. (The worst in the UK was in 1913 in Wales, which killed 5 people.)

The mocking thing when first getting to know people is very on point. "Where are you from?" "[Place]" "Oh dear..." It's like a fake worst-reaction-imaginable that implicitly acknowledges the fear of rejection. Once you know what people are doing, you realize that they're actually being nice-it's actually sort of like taking a jab at the idea of taking a jab.

I'm a Brit who's lived in UK and USA for long periods, tried both systems and, unlike most of the uninformed posters on here who get a large diet of unrepresentative anecdotes from the BBC and disenchanted Yanks coming over thinking they're getting something for nothing, I can objectively say that the US is far better. You can get out of tax with all the deductions and the health care is faster and more comprehensive. In England the overrated NHS doesn't do enough in the way of preventative physicals so bad things happen then people think the NHS does a good job without knowing it could have been avoided One reason (besides horrible UK weather) I would never come back to the UK is the poor health care, which is ok for a broken leg but anything more complicated soon gets the system out of its depth. In short the NHS is complete sheet. It missed my problem which was quickly diagnosed in the US The other thing is that the NHS is getting worse as boatloads of newcomers arrive having paid nothing but then overload the system. Enjoy paying for them? Your taxes will hee hee :-)

One form of humour is the left out word like " I am a stupid idiot", "Oh I'd never say you were an idiot". The tone of voice is also used for example. " what a nice little dog". The word "nice" can be said in a manner which means exactly the opposite.

I think the UK has changed its behaviour and disciplines over the years. With funerals there always used to have dress codes, black or dark suits and ties, black or dark dresses but that has slowly disappeared even at society funerals to a degree although you will see more black clothes at a society funeral than a normal one. I think this is where humour started coming into funerals as well . When instead of people sitting around crying and being all sad and feeling low, people started to celebrate the person who had died either in how they where as a person or the things they did or things they said, especially stories of something they did that was silly or stupid even, like crashing a car and blaming one of the passengers for it or the time they fell of a ladder, setting the house on fire or just being mean or cantankerous. Yes it is always a sad loss to the family of a lost one, but when people start telling funny or strange strange stories do others around join in and that is where the real celebration of the one that has died starts. People hearing stories they have never heard before and will stay with them for time to come fondly remembering the person who has died.

The 24 hundred hour system works better, you do not have to say or write AM or PM it's inbult in the 24 hundred hour system. The whole of the UK forces use it too.digital clocks are easier to read.Just think if you were in a dark room then look at the old system of clocks you would not know if it's daylight or night time but look at a digital clock is 2400 hrs so from 0000hrs to 1200 hrs is AM old style after 1200hrs to 2400hrs is PM. So in the older style clocks in a dark room you do not know what time it is yes it will show a time but is it AM in the dark or PM in the dark.So that's why the forces can tell the right time in the dark because you could be in a bunker with no lights or out in a dark field and still know the correct time.

I went to visit my best friend in Arizona about 15 years back, he lived in the USA for like 20 years & he took me to a drive-thru ATM. He was, "look, I can pay these cheques in & I get a receipt with an image of the cheques I just paid in, how cool is that?" I said, "cheques? WTF? I last wrote a cheque in 1997". I had a guy fit a new boiler in my house & he asked for payment & gave me his bank card, so I just transferred the money to his account & it showed on his banking app in a few seconds. He walked off & it was done. Easy peasy.

I'm an American from Boston (I know, that's a double whammy)... I am a very cautious, safe, and considerate driver. If I see that someone needs to turn at an intersection and no one is letting them in, I will stop and flash my lights so they can turn. That is good "car"ma for me and oftentimes I will be repaid in kind when I need to turn at an intersection. Also, in a merge or on-ramp / off-ramp situation in high traffic, I will always let people in if I'm on the highway or I will slowly merge in with a turn signal to get onto the highway, saying to myself "like a zipper people, like a zipper"! I used to love driving, but now people are usually so angry or in a hurry that it's not a joy like it used to be. But, it's a necessary evil and you gotta do what you gotta do. 🚗

I just wish that anyone who can afford it needs to pay a bigger contribution because it seems like pregnant women and many others, are exploiting our NHS system and we could lose it because of that. That’s unfair especially since if reversed we would be booted out very sharpish. On the other hand I would happily help a person in need by paying more NI. The lump sum as far as I know is £500 per annum. Childbirth costs £7000 U.K. and up to $37,000 US. It’s cheaper. No wonder the NHS is in a state. I’m so conflicted. I hope your pregnancy went beautifully and you bore a healthy Bonnie baby.

Britishism coming up. Q What is the definition of a bore ? A Somebody, when you ask them how they are, they tell you (all about it) In other words being asked how you are, or similar is a simple hello, not an invitation to tell them about your life/problems. So the response is, "fine thanks, and you ?" or similar In the event someone you know very well is referring to a specific thing going on in your life they will make it obvious it is more than a simple greeting

So in the US, you'll get seen if you show up to a hospital with life threatening injuries, but thats it? So if you go there with a broken leg, and you don't have insurance, then they'll refuse to help? In the UK, you'd still get treated
